There’s one thing I have learned as a parent and that is that time goes so fast! I can’t believe we have a two year old now. I know that this year might be the last birthday party theme I choose since Cal will be old enough next year to pick his own! We didn’t have one last year since we celebrated at Disney and I wanted this one to be super special. I always wanted to throw him a theme that was all about him and the moment I said “what is so Cal?” it hit me that his theme should be SoCal! He loves Disney’s Cars, Disney in general, swimming, oranges, and his little vans. I instantly knew this was perfect with Disneyland being in SoCal. I had so much fun creating this party for him!
We had his party at our cousin’s house since they have a cute backyard set up (thankful for them offering!) and then I did a re-set up at our place on Sunday when we opened gifts with family from overseas and in Michigan. This was an easier way also to take photos to show off the talent from Etsy! I can’t believe how lucky I scored with these small shops. They were amazing.
My overall vision was everything SoCal that also related to Cal. I used his Disney’s Cars toys and gifts from us (books) as décor as well as cute palm trees and confetti. Amazon had a cute surf board that was the perfect size for the table as well. I combined the Disney’s Cars with other Mickey items, surfing, sharks, palm trees, oranges, and of course In n Out!! We even had In n Out fries. yum. The California wine was for the adults 😉 I had a few whites, reds, and rosé and then plenty of beer. The kids had Capri sun and honest juice! The Capri sun was more for the theme of course.
I also am very big with not wasting money so majority of what I used for the party can be re-used as décor in his room or are gifts!
Here’s some décor shots with where everything is from below:
The party favors consisted of California surf stickers, gummy sharks, Mickey crayons, and Mickey bubbles. The mickey crayons were probably my absolute favorite items I have purchased! The pack of 5 was only $2!! I’m ordering some other shaped ones for Cal for Christmas because they are so cute.
Food we had In n Out fries, and then this is off theme but we found copy cat Chick-Fil-A chicken nuggets that are amazing! We figured the kiddos would like those. We also had a charcuterie board (of course), veggies, fruit, my cousin’s dip that I crave on the daily, and fruit snacks. Dessert was his cake which was a simple two layered round cake and then I made some Mickey rice krispie treats.
Of course all of this décor is fun and I was excited that it represented Cal’s favorite things (besides the wine 🙂 ) but overall, seeing his smile was the absolute best! I am not big on parties as I normally love experiences – but the big cheese he had on his face all day was worth every minute! We are so thankful for everyone that could make it including his new soccer buddies!
